The Patricia Jane District of the estate vineyard is named after Dr. Jane Hogan, the eldest granddaughter of Robert & Mary Jane. While Jane is saving the lives of children in New Mexico, grapes are growing in Paso Robles that bear her name. Planted in the spring of 1996, the Midnight Cellars estate Zinfandel has developed its own following, known as "the crazy zin people." Possibly the most popular estate wine, it's not one for the faint of heart! These grapes ripen at a higher sugar than most which leads to a bit more alcohol and extraction. A few words of caution from the winemaker: "don't drink the whole bottle by yourself!"

Tasting Notes
All Zinfandel. All Paso Robles. The nose is very ripe, concentrated aromas of red fruit, leather, earth, spice, and herbs leading to a very structured, full mouthfeel. Complex flavors of peach cobbler, chalk, dried herbs, and earth give way to an array of blackberry, strawberry, and unexpected apple.

Vineyard Notes
The 2016 vintage started off with respectable weather through bloom and set. Our first bit of 100-degree weather came during the sizing phase which affected berry growth on many of our varietals. In September, the ripening was lengthened with the hot and cool temperature swings. Overall, winemakers are optimistic about the yields with no significant factors like freezes or prolonged heat spikes affecting the crop.
Winemaker Notes
“In true Paso form, this is a wild west Zin.”
