Cabernet Franc is known for being the most feminine style grape of the "Bordeaux 5" varietals. It is the most elegant, subtle, and perfumy of the bunch. This offering is no exception. It has a beautiful garnet color and the nose is an array of strawberries, fresh-cut flowers, and vanilla. The mouthfeel is medium-full and varietal flavors of red raspberry sweet-tart, minerals, and baking spices mingle throughout. The finish is refined with gentle interactions between the tannins and acidity. An excellent, varietally correct example of Cab Franc.
The 2018 vintage saw an almost ideal balance of vine health and stress, as is often the case with the first dry year after a very wet one. The rain came late, delaying the onset of bud break and the beginning of the growing season. The cool weather continued most of the year, punctuated by a six-week heatwave in July and early August. Temperatures moderated before picking began and harvest proceeded under slightly cooler than normal conditions producing fruit with intense flavors and good balancing acidity.
