Inky violet. Oak-spice-accented dark berries, cherry, licorice and succulent herbs on the fragrant nose. Round, weighty and appealingly seet, showing very good breadth as well as detail to the jammy red and blue fruit and vanilla flacors. The long, gently tannic finish echoes the vanilla note and leaves a hint of smokiness behind. - Josh Raynolds, Vinous
Malbec is known as being a full-bodied wine with a silkier texture than its cousins in the Bordeaux family. This Malbec has a beautiful dark ruby color, almost purple. The nose is fruity and full of ripe blueberry, dried herbs and cooking spices. The silky rich mouth feel leads to earth and vanilla flavors. The smooth finish has beautifully structured tannins that will allow for aging several years.
The 2018 vintage saw an almost ideal balance of vine health and stress, as is often the case with the first dry year after a very wet one. The rain came late, delaying the onset of bud break and the beginning of the growing season. The cool weather continued most of the year, punctuated by a six-week heat wave in July and early August. Temperatures moderated before picking began and harvest proceeded under slightly cooler than normal conditions, producing fruit with intense flavors and balanced acidity.
