2016 Tannat "Titan"
Tannat originated in Southwest France and has recently been gaining popularity all over the world.
This 100% Tannat is from the Hansen and Beato vineyards, both highly acclaimed vineyards in the El Pomar appellation of Paso Robles. The color is amazingly dark, almost Midnight black. The nose is varietal Tannat; dark, dusty, and earthy with a black plum and berry component. The mouthfeel is full and rich with complex flavors of very ripe plum, black cherry, blueberry, leather, baking spices, and a slight floral essence. All flow together into a well-balanced finish accented by spice, soft tannins, and earthy goodness.
The 2016 vintage started off with respectable weather through bloom and set. Our first bit of 100-degree weather came during the sizing phase which affected berry growth on many of our varietals. In September, the ripening was lengthened with the hot and cool temperature swings. Overall, winemakers are optimistic about the yields with no significant factors like freezes or prolonged heat spikes affecting the crop.
