Robert planted 4 acres of Chardonnay back in 1995 because it was his wife Mary Jane's favorite. Since then Midnight has produced a 100% estate Chardonnay from our low-yielding, concentrated vineyard. Our cooler westside climate and wonderfully acidic soils lend divine growing conditions that showcase the varietal in a clean style. The wine only goes through only 20% malolactic fermentation and is barrel aged in 20% new French oak to feature the grape and terroir of our estate vineyard.

A clean and pure chardonnay with a creamy edge to the lA clean and pure chardonnay with a creamy edge to the lemon and pineapple characters. Quite fresh on the palate with a crunchy medium body and a pithy, medium-length finish. Drink now.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
For 23 years we have made our estate Chardonnay using the same old world techniques taught to Rich Hartenberger by his mentors. Hand-picked from our estate vineyard and whole cluster pressed, we passionately age in French oak barrels sur lie. A very uniquely clean, crisp style with traditional flavors of green apple, spice, and French vanilla mingling with a hint of ginger and balanced acidity. Drink thru 2023.
Vineyard Notes
Midnight Cellars was blessed with a good amount of pre-season rainfall for its estate vineyards in 2021. Much of the rain poured during a single storm in late October, sending both the vineyard and production teams in to overdrive for a short time. Although a mad dash was crucial in an effort to get the grapes off the vine, all other aspects of harvest 2021 went smoothly. Resulting in both good yields and quality, Rich Hartenberger and the Midnight Cellars’ team are confident knowing these wines are showing great depth of flavor at lower potential alcohol levels and well-balanced acidity.
