2018 Estate Zinfandel

In Stock
This is a bruiser of a Zinfandel, but it fires on so many cylinders beyond the heft. Woody pine, smoked plum and liquid licorice aromas lead into a palate of oaky tannins that uphold the dense plum and licorice flavors. The tannins dig in and hold on. - Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast

Tasting Notes
This is our 21st offering of our Estate Zinfandel. A giant ripe, rich Paso-style Zinfandel with bodacious fruit exploding out of the glass. Red fruit, dried herbs, and baking spices on the nose alert the taster that something special is in store. The mouthfeel is complex with stonefruit, baking spices, herbs, and a chalkiness that comes straight from the vineyard soil. Firm acidity and perfectly balanced tannins frame this wine and make it perfect for aging and enjoying for dinner.
Vineyard Notes
The 2018 vintage saw an almost ideal balance of vine health and stress, as is often the case with the first dry year after a very wet one. The rain came late, delaying the onset of bud break and the beginning of the growing season. The cool weather continued most of the year, punctuated by a six-week heatwave in July and early August. Temperatures moderated before picking began and harvest proceeded under slightly cooler than normal conditions, producing fruit with intense flavors and balanced acidity.
